10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Heath Ledger,Julia Stiles,Larisa Oleynik

I’ve seen this movie a few times over the years since it was released and I have to tell you it was quite an amusing little movie. It will surely grab your attention and give you some laughs and smiles. It was directed by Gil Junger. The story was written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith. Originally it was based off the William Shakespeare play “The Taming of the Shrew”.

The cast is loaded with many familiar faces, that I’m sure you have seen somewhere else. The leading cast includes the late Heath Ledger who’s last commercial appearance was in The Dark Knight (2008) playing the Joker. In this film he plays Patrick Verona who Woo’s after Julia Stiles character Kat Stratford who is an outsider and not very popular. Her sister is played by Larisa Oleynik as Bianca Stratford and is very popular. Joseph Gordon-Levitt also stars in this as Cameron James who is obsessed with Bianca during the filming of this picture Joseph and Larisa were dating, their relationship ended sometime in 2002.

I think that Joseph is best known from the television series “3rd Rock from the Sun” and could play Heath Ledger if they ever made a true-life type film about him. He currently appears in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and (500) Days of Summer (2009). David Krumholtz plays his side-kick friend Michael in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) and does a fantastic job with the part. Andrew Keegan also appears as Joey Donner a self-obsessed teenager trying to become a famous actor. Susan May Pratt is Mandella a two-faced friend of Kat Stratford trying to become popular at the school.

Gabrielle Union also appears in this playing the role of Chastity since this film was released she has become a lot more popular, and has appeared in films like Bring It On (2000) and Meet Dave (2008). Larry Miller plays the single father Walter Stratford and has to deal with their antics throughout the story, which creates some funny remember able moments. Daryl Mitchell appears as Mr. Morgan a teacher at the school, Allison Janney is Ms. Perky, David Leisure is Mr. Chapin, Greg Jackson is Scruvy, Cameron Fraser is Trevor, Kyle Cease appears as Bogie Lowenstien and Terence Heuston is Derek.

The main story is Kat must be able to date so that Bianca can and their father is very strict trying to look out for them. Different things happen to the girls, and the story all comes together by the end of the film. I will recommend watching this one as it is an entertaining story and full of good times. It has appeared on television many times and is one of the better teen-comedy type movies. The tagline for the movie was “How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways”.
