This movie was an interesting concept. The idea is a man driving from work gets hit by a car and dies; this puts him into the afterlife. This seems relatively simple – until he has to defend his life and be judged by a counsel of beings, who look back at everything he has done on earth. This leads to some amusing situations, and there is also a mild love story in this movie for all you hopeless romantics.
The thing about this film that separates it from other post-life movies is, the way they put it all together. It was done in such a way as you feel like you are there with the lead character Daniel Miller – who is played by Albert Brooks. He is not completely alone in this afterlife adventure, he meets up with Meryl Streep in the role of Julia. You will also see Bob Diamond, played by actor Rip Torn who does try to guide Daniel through the process. Keep your eyes open for appearances like Shirley MacLanie as herself and Micheal Durrell as the agency head. There are also more funny experiences he stumbles through, as he tries to make sense out of everything. The movie is highly underrated; this is a nice feel good comedy, with all the bells and whistles. It is the type of movie that will put a smile on your face after having watched it.
