Land of the Lost (2009)

This one was a surprise; it was a campy fun filled adventure. This is the best performance by Will Ferrell since Blades of Glory (2007). The supporting cast was excellent. I regret not seeing this one in the theatre. There was one scene involving a dinosaur that literally had me in tears of laughter. My wife enjoyed this one as well and we both highly recommend this one. It will entertain you and put a smile on your face.

It was directed by Brad Silberling who really captured something and still honored the original series as a tribute in different ways. The film was written by Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas. The original television series which it was based upon was written by Sid Krofft and Marty Krofft.

Perhaps one the reasons Will Ferrell was picked for this role was his performance in Bewitched (2005) starring opposite with Nicole Kidman. That film was a tribute to the television series as well and turned out to be worthwhile to see. British actress Anna Friel plays Holly Cantrell and tracks down Dr. Rick Marshall three years later played by Will Ferrell who was rejected by the scientific community. They discuss theories which lead them to a remote location in the Arizona desert where they meet up with Danny McBride who plays Will Stanton. From there the story goes completely science fiction and the adventure really begins. They meet up with Chaka who is a monkey man who leads them around played by Jorma Taccone. This setups a number of slapstick comedy gags which seemed to fit the film. John Boylan plays Enik the Sleestak. Matt Lauer also appears in this as himself on television as Matt Lauer.

Don’t forget to watch the end of the credits as there is a little surprise waiting. The tagline used for this was “Right place. Wrong time” and that surely fits this story. I wonder if there might be a sequel to this made one day. Hopefully so, especially if they bring back the team that worked on this film. Check this one out it was a good pick!
