Pineapple Express (2008)

This was a hilarious movie; I found it to be quite entertaining and full of laughs! The script was creatively co-written by Seth Rogen who also stars in this as Dale Denton alongside James Franco who plays Saul Silver. I’ve previously seen them work together in the television series “Freaks and Geeks” which had a limited run. The show didn’t really find its intended audience, so it never had a chance. Evan Goldberg also helped write the screenplay for Pineapple Express (2008) and the story concept was also done by Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. David Gordon Green directed this, and brought the cast together well while keeping it loose and laid back the entire movie.

This movie is about a couple of guys who are unlikely to become friends, and they are surrounded by drugs 24/7. Saul is a dealer, and specifically sells marijuana and a rare type called Pineapple Express. Dale is a buyer and a regular who stops by Saul’s place. They both get high all the time. For a living Dale serves court summons to people by wearing various disguises and is in a relationship with a girl who is still in high school. Dale happens to witness a murder, which was performed by a crooked cop and one of the drug dealers of the city trying to weed out the competition. He doesn’t think obviously after seeing this, and leaves the marijuana (roach) cigarette on the ground outside where the murder happened. He then goes into a panic mode, and is totally overwhelmed with what he witnessed. He heads back to Saul’s place in suspicion and from there the story goes even more over the top.

More of the cast includes: Danny McBride as Red, Kevin Corrigan is Budlofsky, Craig Robinson is Matheson, Gary Cole is Ted Jones, Rosie Perez plays Carol the Female Cop, Ed Begley Jr. is Robert, Nora Dunn is Shannon, Amber Heard is Angie Anderson, and Joe Lo Truglio who plays Mr. Edwards.

The story is very bizarre, but it really keeps your interest, and there are many imaginative scenes that were put together. I will recommend this film for those who like screw-ball comedies that are different and don’t take themselves too seriously. It was loaded with laughs and it is a film you can watch with friends and family, I wouldn’t recommend smaller children seeing this however.
