We both enjoyed watching the first film Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007), and thought it was decent. Unfortunately, this film was an utter disaster. I thought the acting (even the animated chipmunks) was horrible. Nearly the entire cast bombed. The chipmunks didn’t even resemble themselves in comparison to the first film.
Honest to God, what was Hollywood thinking? This film ideally had potential, but the script completely stunk which was written by Jon Vitti, Will McRobb, and Chris Viscardi. The fact that another film is on the way proves profit is the first and foremost the motivation for filmmaking nowadays. Only little children could enjoy such mindless nonsense. I mean we knew what to expect from the previous film. And certainly the cartoons and comics were enjoyable. I didn’t expect too much, but not this…
The film had a budget of $75 million and grossed $442,859,798. That’s quite a profit, and the reason had to be small children dragging their parents out to see this. I don’t know what to say about director Betty Thomas who was responsible for this film. I however enjoyed a few of her other films. I can see why children would find this to be enjoyable to some degree; however it was torture to watch as an adult. I’ve seen my share of animated children films, but this fell way short, lacking an imaginative storyline among other things.
Something else that bothers me was not seeing more of Jason Lee reprising his role as Dave. Where did he go? He was lying on a hospital bed for nearly the entire movie. He was such a presence in the previous film. I don’t understand why they didn’t use him more unless there was a contractual disagreement or scheduling problem. It was a slap in the face to Jason Lee in my opinion. Instead, we got Zachary Levi who plays a character named Toby; he was heartless, thoughtless and clueless. If that was the intention then he did his job as an actor. I found the character to be quite bland and boring.
David Cross who was in the previous film returns as Ian, the voices of the chipmunks were done by: Justin Long as Alvin (voice), Matthew Gray Gubler as Simon (voice), Jesse McCartney as Theodore (voice), Amy Poehler as Eleanor (voice), Anna Faris as Jeanette (voice), and Christina Applegate as Brittany (voice). It was good however to see Wendie Malick getting another role again; she plays Dr. Rubin in this “Squeakquel”. Anjelah N. Johnson plays Julie, Kathryn Joosten plays Aunt Jackie, Kevin G. Schmidt plays Ryan, Chris Warren Jr. plays Xander, and Bridgit Mendler plays Becca.
Around next year sometime in 2011, there is sup post to be the release of the third film titled Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D. Let’s hope it will be much better. This time around the jokes fell flat.
This is one of the better comedy movies I’ve seen in the last decade. It will leave you laughing throughout the film. Rob Schneider stars in this alongside Anna Faris, and Rachel McAdams. It is a slapstick type humor with lots of gags and scene setups in it. This one was directed by Tom Brady who previously worked with Rob Scheider in The Animal (2001). Both Tom and Rob worked together to write this. This is another switching of sexes scenario where things get pretty hairy sort of speak. It all begins with a pair of ancient earrings, and from then on their lives change for the better and worst.
Rob Schneider plays Jessica, Rachel McAdams plays Jessica, Anna Faris is April, Matthew Lawrence is Billy. (Matthew is the brother of Joseph Lawrence) Joseph Lawrence is probably best known as the television character Joey Russo from the show Blossom. Eric Christian Olsen appears in this as Jake, Robert Davi is Stan, Melora Hardin is Carol, Alexandra Holden is Lulu, Maritza Murray is Keecia, Fay Hauser is Mrs. Thomas, Jodi Long is the Korean Mother, Tia Mowry is Venetia, Tamera Mowry is Sissy, Lee Garlington is Vice Principal Bernard, and Angie Stone is Madame Mambuza. Adam Sandler also appears in this as Mambuza Bongo Guy who was uncredited.
You will most likely enjoy this one if you have an open minded sense of humor about things; I think most people liked it. There have been a number of films like this however such as It’s a Boy Girl Thing (2006) with a slightly different scenario. If you are in the mood for a laugh, then this one will at least make you smile.
“The hottest chick in town just switched bodies with the luckiest loser in the world”
If you were looking for an interesting comedy then this one will surely entertain you. It is part Supergirl (1984) starring Helen Slater with some moments much like the movie The Break-up (2006) starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. It was directed by Ivan Reitman who was responsible for bringing blockbusters like Ghost Busters (1984) to the screen. The screenplay was written by Don Payne.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) stars a couple who begin dating. Uma Thurman plays Jenny Johnson aka G-Girl and Luke Wilson plays Matt Saunders her object of affection. Anna Faris appears in this as Hannah Lewis along with Rainn Wilson as Vaughn Haige. More of the cast includes: Eddie Izzard playing Professor Bedlam, Wanda Sykes as Carla Dunkirk, Stelio Savante as Leo, Mike Iorio plays Lenny, and Mark Consuelos is Steve Velard.
It was funny and any man who has dated some unusual women in the past will find it even more humorous. It is a parody of life, with some science fiction thrown in giving Luke’s character Matt a difficult situation to deal with since his former girlfriend has superpowers. He thought that he had found the perfect girl in his life, until she reveals her identity to him as G-Girl the super heroine. She becomes jealous, clingy and needy. Matt is pretty well reserved and a shy type of a guy. This makes way for some remember able scenes that were pretty creative.
I think you will find this worthy of watching and it will leave you with at least a couple good laughs. I thought it was well put together, and mostly it is a light hearted comedy that you can share with family and friends together. I will recommend this one for sure.
This was good for a few laughs but that was it, mostly it had some drama filled scenes in it. It was advertised as more of a slapstick comedy, but don’t expect this when you watch it. I do however think Anna Faris from Scary Movie (2000) and the rest of the franchise delivers a good performance as Shelley Darlingson a former house bunny at the Playboy Mansion. She is thrown out of the mansion and has to go out on her own; she is not used to living outside the mansion. This leads her to a frat house where she finds some girls there not quite “beautiful” in comparison to other women. She then decides to help them, and in return they give her a job as house mother of this fraternity house and a place to stay.
In the essence of the movie, Shelley helps herself, and in the process of helping others – this leads to a resolution and realization for herself. The supporting cast includes Kat Dennings from Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008) as Mona. The actor Christopher McDonald plays Dean Simmons. There are more familiar faces in this like Beverly D’Angelo (the mother from Vacation (1983) and the rest of the National Lampoon’s Vacation series). The actor Colin Hanks also has a part in this as Oliver. He is Tom Hank’s son in case you didn’t already know. Also, Rumor Willis (daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis) is Joanne. You will also see cameo appearances in this like Hugh Hefner as himself.
