I just finished this one; I was impressed with the entire concept of the film, and what happened throughout the story. It was co-written by John Jeffcoat and George Wing. John Jeffcoat also directed this picture. The basic premise is a man named Todd Anderson played by actor Josh Hamilton is transferred to India, to help assist his company in operations at a call center. While there he finds friends, a romance and understanding of the culture of India.
It is interesting to see the lifestyle of the people in comparison to the people here in the states. We take much for granted, and many have nearly no clue to how the rest of the world lives, hopefully this will help open peoples eyes to things and get a taste of a different culture in the world.
I think the cast and crew did a great job at keeping this fairly realistic, and the movie offers you different aspects of India and what goes on in their personal lives along with the workplace. Todd must train the employees there to learn to speak and sound more like native English speakers. In particular, he teaches Purohit slang words used in everyday speech. It is funny some of the situations that happen and references used, the story comes together very well and at a nice pace. The love interest of Todd is played by Ayesha Dharker as Asha, she also assists him in running things at the call center. The manager he is training is played by actor Asif Basra in the role of Purohit N. Virajnarianan. He does an excellent job in the part, and I thought was clearly the standout in this film. Josh Hamilton does a great job in this role as well and I was reminded of how he can carry a movie quite easily. If you haven’t seen the film Freak Talks About Sex (1999) watch this one also, as Josh runs away with the movie. I will highly recommend this film it was worth a watch.
This is seriously one of Tim Robbins best performances right on par with his character Andy Dufresne from the award winning film The Shawshank Redemption (1994). In this movie Noise (2007) we see him as a man named David Owen who is completely fed up with the way the city is dealing with noises from car alarms. He creates an alter ego for himself called The Rectifier, and starts taking things into his own hands due to the lack of assistance from the authorities. He even ends up in jail, and also tries to fight the system through the courtroom in small claims courts.
The story continues to emerge into something more as a message to everyone dealing with this kind of “noise pollution” of sorts. His wife is played by the lovely Bridget Moynahan from movies like I Robot (2004) with Will Smith. In this film, she gives him an ultimatum as it begins to affect their daily lives. They also have a small child named Chris Owen played by Gabrielle Brennan. You will also see William Hurt in this film playing Mayor Schneer, his Chief of staff is played by William Baldwin. Margarita Levieva plays Ektaterina Filippovna a Russian woman who finds out who he really is. The story takes a turn from this point on.
This movie also raises some interesting questions, and can be looked at from different ways, a society that has failed him with the way the system is setup or that he failed society with his actions that he took towards people and their personal property. At least that was the intention that director Henry Bean seemed to convey with his script. The character also reminds me of the one that actor Michael Douglas played in the movie Fallen Down (1993). Both of these characters snapped mentally, and lashed out towards things around them. This movie is definitely worth a watch and I think you will find it entertaining.
This shows the underbelly of Hollywood, and the seedy lifestyle people are willing to live with to get “The Shot” for their paparazzi tabloid magazine. The story opens up with a homeless man (Toby Grace) wandering the streets begging for spare change.
The story also follows Les Galantine played by actor Steve Buscemi as a typical stop at nothing reporter/photographer trying to make his way into the Hollywood scene. He meets up with starving actor Toby Grace played by Micheal Pitt (no relation to Brad Pitt) who he takes under his wing, and gives him a place to stay; things suddenly change when he locks eyes with Alison Lohman playing K’Harma Leeds a fictitious popular singer in the Hollywood spotlight – immediate sparks fly between Toby and K’Harma.
There are some noteworthy appearances in this one such as talented and sexy Gina Gershon playing Dana who is a casting director. Elvis Costello makes an appearance in this as himself and we also see Minnie Driver in this. By the way, there is another Delirious (1991) movie in which the late great John Candy starred which was a comedy and pretty funny. I will recommend this Delirious (2006) also, it was worthy of a watch.
This film is one of my favorites from the 1980’s series of post high-school days. I think that this one is a standout among others. This is one of John Cusack’s best performances as Lloyd Dobler an underdog type guy who tries to slip by with his wits and kickboxing skills – until he discovers Diane Court played by the lovely Ione Skye. She bedazzles him with her charm and intellect which leads to the basis of the story.
These two characters represent to many people who grew up in the 1980’s a certain era of time, and how things happened throughout school and thereafter. John Cusack’s character is best friends with several young women played by Lili Taylor, Pamela Adlon, and Amy Brooks. I thought all of them complimented one another as friends, and Cusack worked well with them.
If you let yourself drift into this movie, you feel apart of their little world and that is a very cool thing. It’s another one of those type films – you forget you are watching a movie and peering into the lives of these characters. John Cusack’s sister Joan is also in this playing guess what? That’s right, his sister. You can’t get more authentic than that. She however was uncredited in this particular role as Constance Dobler. Notably John Mahoney plays Diane Court’s father James. You will also see briefly Jeremy Piven, Eric Stoltz, Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith from the television series Cheers) Kim Walker and Lisanne Falk are also in this who both appeared in the movie Heathers (1988) together. Dan Castellaneta appears as Diane’s teacher and Lois Chiles as her mother both of them were uncredited. The actor Philip Baker Hall is in this and actress Katie Layman is the Saleswoman at the store.
This movie has an iconic scene in it with John Cusack’s character Lloyd Dobler holding up a stereo above his head with the song done by Peter Gabriel titled “In Your Eyes” that becomes a theme for this film in many regards. A fabled line is muttered while he is inside a phone booth talking with rain pouring down outside. He says: “I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen”. This is absolutely a brilliant film. Do yourself a favor and get this one if you have never seen it before. This movie is a must watch.
This delightful tale is filled with taste, song and story. I was impressed after having watched this tonight. I think this was a witty look at the wine industry boom that happened in California back in the 1970’s. If you are an alcoholic, I’m sure you will enjoy this even more since most of the film involves drinking. (chuckle) Now, seriously it was good and worth a watch. The cast was great and really seemed to compliment everything the filmmakers had in mind. I’m glad I was able to find out about this one. Sometimes taking a chance pays off when watching movies. Sometimes, it’s a real miss, but this one was a big hit.
I liked the dynamics between the father and son in this story and the characters that revolved around them. The father and owner of the vineyard named Jim Barrett was played by veteran actor Bill Pullman. His son Bo Barrett was played by Chris Pine, who I thought also, did an excellent job. Alan Rickman plays Steven Spurrier a wine shop owner and connoisseur. The rest of the cast includes Racheal Taylor a former Teen Tasmania from Australia who is easy on the eyes. Freddy Rodriguez also stars in this as Gustavo Brambila a talented creator of wine. You will also notice Miguel Sandoval, Dennis Farina, and the lovely Eliza Dushku.
This event was nickname labeled the “Judgment of Paris”. It is based upon true events that happened with a particular vineyard named Chateau Montelena that was almost ready to shutdown. Sometimes people need faith and understanding which I think is the message in this film to succeed in life. More often than not movies like this get shadowed by big budget nonsense with lots of dollars behind them and people miss out on good ole fashioned film-making. I think Bottle Shock (2008) is one of these movies that got overlooked aside from being at Sundance. It was intriguing and well put together by director Randell Miller. Grab this one and check it out!
This was an Oscar winner, so obviously it got lots of attention. I wanted to review it also; this movie was extremely well done in a very subtle way. The interconnected stories are all meshed together in some way or another. This makes the story dynamic in different ways, so you have to see and read between the lines of what is there. The movie was directed by Paul Haggis who has talent growing out of his shoulders, even though the man has lost his hair. You might know that he also won for his writing of the screenplay for Million Dollar Baby (2004) which was directed by Clint Eastwood. This means only since 1950 he is the only screenwriter who has won two back to back best film awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. That’s quite an achievement. He directed this film also.
You will see a lot of familiar faces in this one, including Sandra Bullock playing Jean Cabot who is a rich woman without any real friends in life, until she wakes up to realize who is important to her. The unique Don Cheadle plays Det. Graham Waters who is a partial centerpiece for the film. You will also see Tony Danza in this as Fred and Brendan Fraser as Rick Cabot. Keith David is Lt. Dixon, Loretta Devine is playing Shaniqua Johnson, Matt Dillon as Officer John Ryan, Ryan Phillippe as Officer Tom Hansen and Jennifer Esposito is Ria. Also, Terrence Howard is in this playing the role of Cameron Thayer and his wife is played by Thandie Newton. The actor Michael Peña also gives a great performance. There are others of course, but you will have to see this yourself.
The performances given in this were excellent. The movie shines light on racial tensions, and takes place throughout various locations in Los Angeles. The open setting of the story takes place with several people involved in multiple car crashes, the movie flashes back to the daily lives of each of the central characters and from there we get a sense of what really happened and how things unfolded. I highly recommend this, and it will be put on my best picks list. The tagline for this film was: “You think you know who you are. You have no idea”.
