Outsourced (2006)

I just finished this one; I was impressed with the entire concept of the film, and what happened throughout the story. It was co-written by John Jeffcoat and George Wing. John Jeffcoat also directed this picture. The basic premise is a man named Todd Anderson played by actor Josh Hamilton is transferred to India, to help assist his company in operations at a call center. While there he finds friends, a romance and understanding of the culture of India.

It is interesting to see the lifestyle of the people in comparison to the people here in the states. We take much for granted, and many have nearly no clue to how the rest of the world lives, hopefully this will help open peoples eyes to things and get a taste of a different culture in the world.

I think the cast and crew did a great job at keeping this fairly realistic, and the movie offers you different aspects of India and what goes on in their personal lives along with the workplace. Todd must train the employees there to learn to speak and sound more like native English speakers. In particular, he teaches Purohit slang words used in everyday speech. It is funny some of the situations that happen and references used, the story comes together very well and at a nice pace.

The love interest of Todd is played by Ayesha Dharker as Asha, she also assists him in running things at the call center. The manager he is training is played by actor Asif Basra in the role of Purohit N. Virajnarianan. He does an excellent job in the part, and I thought was clearly the standout in this film. Josh Hamilton does a great job in this role as well and I was reminded of how he can carry a movie quite easily. If you haven’t seen the film Freak Talks About Sex (1999) watch this one also, as Josh runs away with the movie. I will highly recommend this film it was worth a watch.

With Honors (1994)

This is an excellent film. It has humor in it; drama and even a little romance all of the Hollywood elements in one package. The actor Joe Pesci plays a homeless man named Simon Wilder who is living down in the boiler room of Harvard University. Each day for him is a struggle ravaging through the trashcans at the university.

One day as luck would have it a student at the university named Montgomery ‘Monty’ Kessler (played by actor Brendon Fraser) stumbles along the walkway losing his thesis paper into the hands of Simon, who uses them as blackmail to get assistance from Monty. This leads to all kinds of different scenarios between them. And his roommates are surprised at the situation that unfolds. Some of them are more surprised than others.

You might remember Joe Pesci from such movies as My Cousin Vinny (1992) or Goodfellas (1990). I’m sure you have seen Brendon Fraser before in such movies as The Mummy (1999) or Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008). There are more supporting cast in this such as Moira Kelly as Courtney Blumenthal. She appeared in films like The Cutting Edge (1992).

You will also see Patrick Dempsey from the television series Grey’s Anatomy playing the role of Everett Calloway. And actor Josh Hamilton from Freak Talks About Sex (1999) plays Jeffrey Hawks. They all share the same building together living off campus. I think the story was well written and it moves along nicely.

The actors all seem to play well off one another and the story setting at the campus added some lively atmosphere to the film. This movie makes you reflect upon your life thinking about things that really matter most and holding onto the memories. This is a great rental if you decide you are in the mood for a comedy/drama type film.
