Land of the Lost (2009)

This one was a surprise; it was a campy fun filled adventure. This is the best performance by Will Ferrell since Blades of Glory (2007). The supporting cast was excellent. I regret not seeing this one in the theatre. There was one scene involving a dinosaur that literally had me in tears of laughter. My wife enjoyed this one as well and we both highly recommend this one. It will entertain you and put a smile on your face.

It was directed by Brad Silberling who really captured something and still honored the original series as a tribute in different ways. The film was written by Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas. The original television series which it was based upon was written by Sid Krofft and Marty Krofft.

Perhaps one the reasons Will Ferrell was picked for this role was his performance in Bewitched (2005) starring opposite with Nicole Kidman. That film was a tribute to the television series as well and turned out to be worthwhile to see. British actress Anna Friel plays Holly Cantrell and tracks down Dr. Rick Marshall three years later played by Will Ferrell who was rejected by the scientific community. They discuss theories which lead them to a remote location in the Arizona desert where they meet up with Danny McBride who plays Will Stanton. From there the story goes completely science fiction and the adventure really begins. They meet up with Chaka who is a monkey man who leads them around played by Jorma Taccone. This setups a number of slapstick comedy gags which seemed to fit the film. John Boylan plays Enik the Sleestak. Matt Lauer also appears in this as himself on television as Matt Lauer.

Don’t forget to watch the end of the credits as there is a little surprise waiting. The tagline used for this was “Right place. Wrong time” and that surely fits this story. I wonder if there might be a sequel to this made one day. Hopefully so, especially if they bring back the team that worked on this film. Check this one out it was a good pick!

Step Brothers (2008) Review

Step Brothers (2008)

The very idea of two men still living at home with their parents in North America at 40 years of age is pretty ridiculous in many ways, and that is the initial storyline in this film. They are both crude and rude with a primitive nature. What better actors that could be chosen for this than former Saturday Night Live man Will Ferrell as Brennan Huff and veteran movie actor John C. Reilly playing Dale Doback who have both worked together previously in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (1996).

The storyline was simple in the fact they both come together after their parents get married becoming step brothers, at first they hated one another then they start getting along. Their parents give them an ultimatum that they must find a job or get kicked out of their house. These two cause quite a bit of mischief for Mary Steenburgen as Nancy Huff and Richard Jenkins as Dr. Robert Doback who marries Nancy.

The supporting cast includes Adam Scott as Derek Huff the biological brother of Brennan, Derek’s wife is played by Kathryn Hahn as Alice Huff who is quite crazy and wild. Their children are played by Lurie Poston as Tommy Huff and Elizabeth Yozamp is Tiffany Huff. Andrea Savage plays Denise who later is the psychologist that works with Will Ferrell’s character Brennan. The movie was stretched out a bit and could have ended sooner but this left room for more slapstick comedy gags to be put in. There are some scenes in this film that are pretty bazaar. But, I found a few of them to be humorous, I don’t think this movie will appeal to everyone, but I think it was good enough to watch on DVD.
