The Private Eyes (1981)
I watched this with my sister many years ago. We enjoyed it then and I just recently watched it again. Don Knotts and Tim Conway made a great team in any movie. The late Don Knotts has left a pretty long resume behind as well as many friends and fans.
This movie is a classic to me also, I thought the goofy humor was kind of unique and the movie had its own sense of style. Some people might not go for this movie, but I think the silly things that happen throughout the film will be enough for people to stick with it until the end. The film is a spoof of Sherlock Holmes the detective.
Don Knotts plays Inspector Winship and Tim Conway plays Dr. Tart. It is easy to see why these two were paired again. They work seamlessly together in each scene and were a great comic duo. There are some familiar faces in this one like journeyman actor Bernard Fox who has been in everything from Dharma & Greg to The Fall Guy tv series.
You may also recognize Grace Zabriskie who was in The Grudge (2004) and many more films. Fred Stuthman plays Lord Morley who is…well there is more to be found out if you decide to watch it.
There are some classic humor scenes in this, I dare not mention to avoid spoiling anything.
If you like mystery movies then this is a comedic one worth a view.
